Why study in Spain?

Studying in Spain is much more than taking classes in another country. It's living the daily life of a Spanish student, sharing the life of a local family and immersing yourself in a warm, expressive and deeply human culture.

Spain is recognized for:

  • its cultural and regional diversity
  • the richness of its language
  • the quality and safety of its education system
  • a living environment conducive to the development of adolescents

The program allows natural linguistic immersion, with rapid progress in Spanish thanks to school, family and daily life.

Orientation in Barcelona

Upon arrival, students participate in a collective orientation in Barcelona, organized over a weekend.

This orientation aims to:

  • meet other international students
  • discover Spanish culture and the city of Barcelona
  • understand how the program works
  • prepare for life with a host family and at high school

The orientation includes accommodation, meals and supervised cultural activities. After this weekend, students join their host region and family.

The Spanish school system

Students are enrolled in a Spanish high school and take classes with local students. Teaching is often more lecture-based, close to a university approach: teachers explain, students take notes and work autonomously.

Subjects are determined by class level and may include:

  • Spanish
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • English
  • History and Geography
  • Physical Education

Classes generally have 20 to 30 students. Teachers change rooms, and students stay in their reference class all day.

Mobile phones may be limited during classes, depending on the institution.

Academic levels and assessment

Students are placed in a level corresponding to their age and their last validated class:

  • 3º ESO: 14–15 years old
  • 4º ESO: 15–16 years old
  • 1º Bachillerato: 16–17 years old
  • 2º Bachillerato: 17–18 years old

The school year is divided into three terms:

  • September to December
  • January to March
  • April to June

Grades are given on a scale of 0 to 10, with 5 as the passing grade. For international students, emphasis is placed on progress, involvement and linguistic adaptation.

Recognition of grades and credits is done in the country of origin and depends on the French institution.

Life with a host family

Spanish host families can be very varied: families with children, without children, single-parent families, etc. All are selected and supervised by the local organization.

The family:

  • welcomes the student as a full member
  • provides accommodation and meals
  • shares their daily life, habits and culture

Family life is central in Spain, especially around meals, which are important moments of exchange.

Supervision and monitoring

Each student benefits from:

  • a local coordinator, in regular contact with the student and family
  • monitoring throughout the stay
  • regular reports sent to parents
